Essential Ingredients for Air Fryer Pepperoni Rolls

For the Rolls:

These ingredients form the base of the rolls and bring all that cheesy, meaty, doughy goodness.

• 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (or pizza dough)
• 24 slices of pepperoni (or more, to taste)
• 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or a blend of mozzarella and cheddar)
• 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (for extra flavor)
• 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
• ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for added zing)

For Dipping Sauce (Optional):

A good sauce takes these pepperoni rolls to the next level!

• ½ cup marinara sauce (warmed)
• ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a little heat)
• 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional garnish)

How to Make Air Fryer Pepperoni Rolls

1. Preheat Your Air Fryer

Set your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and let it preheat for about 3–5 minutes. This ensures the rolls cook evenly and come out perfectly crispy.

2. Prepare the Dough

Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles (or divide your pizza dough into 8 small rectangles if using that instead). Gently stretch each piece to make a slightly larger base for rolling.

3. Add the Fillings

On the wide end of each triangle or rectangle, layer 2–3 slices of pepperoni and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of shredded cheese. Add a pinch of Italian seasoning on top. Don’t overfill—the rolls need to stay sealed during cooking!

4. Roll It Up

Carefully roll each triangle starting at the wide end, tucking the pepperoni and cheese inside as you go. Pinch the ends to seal the roll completely so the cheese doesn't leak out.

5. Brush with Butter and Seasoning

In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with garlic powder. Brush the tops of the rolls with this mixture. This step adds extra flavor and gives the rolls a beautiful golden finish in the air fryer.

6. Air Fry the Rolls

Place the rolls in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure there’s space between each roll so air can circulate. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Cook the rolls at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Check around the 7-minute mark to ensure they’re not overbrowning.

7. Serve with Dipping Sauce

While the rolls are cooking, warm up the marinara sauce for dipping. Once the rolls are done, let them cool for 1–2 minutes (they’ll be hot!). Serve with warm marinara, a sprinkle of Parmesan, and enjoy.

Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Pepperoni Rolls

Don’t Overstuff the Dough

More isn’t always better—too much filling can cause the rolls to burst open while cooking. Stick to 2–3 slices of pepperoni and a couple tablespoons of cheese per roll for best results.

Use Parchment Paper or Spray the Basket

To prevent sticking, spray your air fryer basket lightly with oil, or use air fryer parchment liners. This also makes cleanup easier.

Make Them Ahead

You can assemble the rolls ahead of time and refrigerate them until ready to cook. They can also be frozen after rolling and cooked straight from the freezer—just add 2–3 minutes to the cooking time.

Customize Your Fillings

Try these tasty variations:

• Swap in turkey pepperoni or vegan pepperoni.
• Add a small spoon of pizza sauce inside each roll before sealing.
• Use jalapeños, cooked sausage, or sautéed mushrooms for added flavor.

Reheat Like a Pro

If you have leftovers, reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes. They’ll crisp up again nicely—way better than the microwave!

FAQs

1. Can I use pizza dough instead of crescent dough?

Absolutely! Pizza dough works great and gives a slightly chewier texture. Just cut it into small rectangles and roll up the same way.

2. Can I make these rolls ahead of time?

Yes. Assemble them up to a day in advance and store them in the fridge. When ready to cook, air fry straight from the fridge for the same amount of time.

3. Can I freeze pepperoni rolls?

Yes! Freeze uncooked rolls on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag. Cook straight from frozen in the air fryer at 350°F for 10–12 minutes.

4. How do I keep the cheese from leaking out?

Seal the edges tightly when rolling. You can even tuck the ends underneath the roll to help hold everything in.

5. Can I use different cheeses?

Totally! Mozzarella is classic, but cheddar, provolone, or a cheese blend all work. You can even add a sprinkle of Parmesan inside for extra flavor.

6. What dipping sauces work best?

Marinara is a favorite, but you can also serve with ranch, garlic butter, BBQ sauce, or even spicy mayo for a fun twist.

7. How long do leftovers last?

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes to bring back the crispiness.

8. Can I make these vegetarian?

Yes! Skip the pepperoni or substitute with veggies like mushrooms or spinach. Be sure to sauté veggies first to avoid extra moisture.

9. What if I don’t have an air fryer?

You can bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.

10. Can I make them spicy?

Yes! Add crushed red pepper flakes inside or drizzle with hot sauce. You can also use spicy pepperoni or jalapeños for a kick.
