Ingredients for Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Easter Baskets

Makes: 12 baskets

For the Chocolate Dipped Strawberries:

• 12 large fresh strawberries (with stems on)
• 8 oz (225 g) semisweet or milk chocolate (or a combination)
• 2 oz (60 g) white chocolate (for drizzling, optional)

For the Basket Filling:

• Mini chocolate eggs, jelly beans, or pastel candy (your choice)
• Shredded coconut (for "grass" effect, optional)

How to Make Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Easter Baskets

Step 1: Prepare the Strawberries

1. Wash and thoroughly dry the strawberries. Make sure the stems are still attached, as they will act as handles for your baskets.
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Melt the Chocolate

1. Melt the semisweet or milk chocolate in a heatproof bowl. You can do this by microwaving it in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, or using a double boiler on the stovetop.
2. Stir the chocolate until it’s smooth and fully melted.

Step 3: Dip the Strawberries

1. Hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it into the melted chocolate, ensuring that the strawberry is about two-thirds covered.
2. Place the dipped strawberries on the prepared baking sheet to set. Repeat with the remaining strawberries.

Step 4: Drizzle with White Chocolate (Optional)

1. If you want to add a decorative touch, melt the white chocolate and drizzle it over the chocolate-dipped strawberries using a spoon or fork.
2. Allow the white chocolate to set for a few minutes before moving to the next step.

Step 5: Create the Basket Shape

1. After the chocolate has set, use a sharp knife to carefully make an incision about one-third of the way down from the top of each strawberry. Gently create a small hole in the center to form a "basket" shape.
2. Be careful not to cut too deeply, as the strawberry should still hold its shape. The hole will be where you add your candy filling.

Step 6: Fill the Baskets

1. Fill each strawberry "basket" with mini chocolate eggs, jelly beans, or any candy of your choice.
2. For a fun touch, you can also add some shredded coconut on top of the candy to resemble "grass" inside the basket.

Step 7: Chill and Serve

1. Place the chocolate-dipped strawberry baskets in the refrigerator for about 15–20 minutes to ensure the chocolate sets properly.
2. Once set, serve and enjoy! These chocolate dipped strawberry baskets make a delightful dessert for Easter or any spring celebration.

Tips for Perfect Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Easter Baskets

• Choose ripe strawberries: Pick strawberries that are fresh, firm, and have their green stems intact. This helps with the structure of the "basket."
• Don’t skip the drying step: Make sure the strawberries are completely dry before dipping. Water can cause the chocolate to seize.
• Use a spoon for drizzling: If you don’t have a piping bag for drizzling white chocolate, a spoon works just as well to create a decorative effect.
• Let the chocolate set completely: Ensure the chocolate is fully set before filling the baskets to avoid any mess.
• Fill with pastel treats: For a festive look, choose pastel-colored candies that match the Easter theme.

How to Store and Freeze

Storing: Keep the chocolate dipped strawberry baskets in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. The strawberries are best when fresh, but they’ll keep their shape and flavor in the fridge.

Freezing: You can freeze the chocolate-dipped strawberries before adding the candy, but it’s best to freeze them uncovered on a baking sheet first. Once frozen, transfer them to a container or bag. Thaw before adding the candy filling.

Serving Suggestions

These chocolate dipped strawberry Easter baskets are perfect on their own, but you can also serve them alongside:

• A festive fruit salad with fresh berries and citrus
• Mini cupcakes or cookies for a full dessert spread
• Hot chocolate or iced tea for a refreshing drink pairing

They’re also great as a fun, edible gift for friends and family during the Easter season.

FAQs

1. Can I use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate?

Yes! Dark chocolate works beautifully with strawberries. Just keep in mind that it will be a bit more intense in flavor, so choose the chocolate you prefer.

2. Can I make these without the white chocolate drizzle?

Absolutely! The white chocolate drizzle is optional and only adds a decorative touch. The baskets are still delicious without it.

3. How do I prevent the chocolate from seizing?

Make sure the strawberries are completely dry before dipping them in chocolate. Also, avoid getting any water into the melted chocolate, as it will cause it to seize up.

4. Can I use other types of fruit?

Yes, you can substitute strawberries with other fruits like raspberries or even halved grapes for a different take on the baskets.

5. How can I make the baskets more sturdy?

The key to making sturdy baskets is to ensure that the chocolate has set properly before you start filling the baskets. You can also make a slightly larger hole for the filling to prevent overstuffing.

6. Can I use different types of candy for the baskets?

Yes! You can use any candy you like, from gummy candies to pastel chocolates. Get creative with the fillings for a personalized touch.

7. How long do these last in the fridge?

These chocolate dipped strawberry baskets will last in the fridge for 2-3 days. However, they’re best enjoyed fresh as strawberries don’t have a long shelf life.

8. Can I make these baskets in advance?

You can prepare the chocolate-dipped strawberries a day ahead and keep them refrigerated. Just wait until the day of serving to fill the baskets with candy to avoid sogginess.

9. Can I use a different type of chocolate for dipping?

Yes! You can use white chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate depending on your preference. You can also experiment with flavored chocolate for a unique twist.

10. How can I make these baskets look even more festive?

You can decorate the baskets with colored sprinkles, edible glitter, or even add small edible flowers for a beautiful, extra-fancy touch.
